BolinxReader On this Side (Songfic)

Bolin was walking down the sunny streets of Republic City, Pabu resting on his shoulders, looking at all the people. Korra and Mako were out on a date and made it very clear that they didn’t want Bolin tagging along. So Bolin decided to walk around a bit, maybe get some water tribe noodles.

Pabu saw something he liked and jumped off Bolin’s shoulders, running away.

“Pabu! Where are you going?” Bolin called out after the fire ferret, chasing him through the streets. “Excuse me, pardon me, coming through!” Finally Pabu stopped and Bolin was able to catch up, a little out of breath. “What was that for Pabu?” he asked then looked up. That’s when he saw her.

On day you’ll see her
And you’ll know what I mean.
Take her or leave her
She will still be the same.

“Oh, hello, is this your fire ferret?” she asked. Pabu had snuggled himself up in her arms as she patted him gently. Bolin was struck dumb by her beauty. She had (h/l) (h/c) hair that shimmered in the gentle wind. (e/c) eyes that sparkled in the sunlight.

“Um . . . well . . . uh.” Was all that came out of Bolin’s mouth. She looked at him confused and walked closer to him, which seemed to knock him out of his trance.

“Are you alright?” she asked him. She seemed genuinely worried.

“Why yes! I’m perfectly fine! Oh and . . . um . . . yes, that is my fire ferret.” He said trying to act cool, but failing miserably.

She’ll not try to buy you

As you will see when she’s gone.

“Oh, well, here you go.” She said with her soft voice as she handed Pabu back to Bolin. Their hands touched for a split second, but they both felt a shock. Their eyes met after that and when green met (e/c), they locked. It wasn’t until Pabu got in their line of vision that they broke apart.

It’s foreign on this side,

“I-I’m sorry! U-um, I have to go, bye.” She said and started hurrying away. Bolin was confused for a second before he started calling after her.

“W-wait, can I see you again?” Bolin shouted after her. She stopped and turned back to him.

“I’m at the park every Tuesday.” She said and ran off before Bolin could even say anything more. He stared after her. He didn’t know what was happening to him. He wanted to see her again. But what if he couldn’t find her?

’No, I will find her. She said Tuesday at the park. It’s Sunday now. So only a couple days away. I will find her.’

Tuesday finally came and Bolin couldn’t help but be anxious.

“Bye Mako, bye Korra.” He said as quick as he could before leaving the gym after practice. He couldn’t wait to leave and start looking for you.

“What’s up with him?” Korra asked. Mako just shook his head.

“Don’t ask.” He said.

Bolin searched through the park, high and low. But couldn’t seem to find the mysterious girl. He was getting more and more anxious, and was about to lose hope. He saw a group of people near the fountain, ‘ooh’ing and ‘ahh’ing at something. He walked over to see what was so amazing, surely nothing better than Pabu’s act.

He kicked up a rock to get a better view over people, to only see a fantastic show of waterbending, using colors he’s never seen before. They swirled and looped and twisted, he was amazed. He tried to see who was bending it, but couldn’t.

When the water stopped, everyone applauded. People left their pay and started walking off. It wasn’t until almost everyone was gone did Bolin realize that it was the girl he was looking for. She had put on the show.

They will try to buy

As he approached her, she turned around and saw him. With just a smile from her, Bolin’s heart was racing.

“I thought you wouldn’t come.” She said, gathering up her colored water and money.

“I was curious to know who you were. Which reminds me. Hi, I’m Bolin, earth bender of the of the pro bending team, The Fire Ferrets. You may have heard of me.” Bolin said, sticking out his hand. She smiled and giggled at his machoness.

“I’m [Name], regular street performer. It’s a honor to meet you Bolin.” She said, shaking his hand.

It’s foreign on this side,
And the truth is a bitter friend.

For the rest of the day, the two walked and talked about anything and everything. Bolin was absolutely taken with [Name]. He loved everything about her, her voice, her laugh, her personality, everything.

He learned that she was a lot like him. Having lost her parents at a young age, she used her bending to get by, and became really wonderful at it. She was now living alone with her cat coon, Shu, in a small apartment.

“The day’s almost over.” [Name] said sadly. Bolin looked at the sky and noticed the sun starting to go down.

“Yeah.” Was all he said. When he looked over at [Name], she looked disappointed for a moment, then her eyes sparkled as she turned to him.

“Hey, I want to show you something. But we need to hurry.” She said and grabbed his hand, then started running off into the city.

She dragged him farther into the city to the tallest building.

“Hello there [Name], here for the usual?” the doorman asked. She nodded and pulled Bolin inside. She rushed to the elevator and pressed the button for the roof. Going up was a little slow, and Bolin could see that she was anxious as she tapped her foot and kept squeezing his hand.

“What exactly are you going to show me?” he asked, trying not to think about her holding his hand. She looked at him with a huge smile on her face.

“Just wait, it’ll be worth it.” She said. When they reached the roof, she placed a hand over his eyes, covering them.

“Close your eyes, I want it to be a surprise.” She said. He blushed and smiled, nodding yes. She pulled her hand away slowly to see that they were in fact closed. She took his hands again and led him out near the edge of the roof. When she thought the time was right, she moved to the side and looked out.

“Okay, you can open them.” She said. Bolin opened his green eyes and blinked a few times to focus, when they did, what he saw was amazing.

“Wow.”

There before him, was Republic City, the bay, the Arena, and Air Temple Island, all bathed in the golden light of the setting sun.  The sky lit up with oranges, pinks, and the beginning of purples.

“I love coming up here.” She said. I gust of wind blew by and she shivered, grabbing onto his arm for warmth.

Even with the beautiful view in front of him, all he could look at was her.

“This day was amazing [Name]. I wish I didn’t have to go back home.” Bolin said.

Your first love blinded you

Entrance is crucial
And it’s not without pay.

[Name] and Bolin had been meeting for a while now. He fell in love with her every time, but he was afraid of what might happen if he told her. He didn’t want a repeat of what happened with Korra. He had decided to keep it to himself, for now.

Now, he was on his way to meet up with her at the park, like they always did. He was circling to the other side of the fountain to their spot when he saw her. Except she was with another guy.

“Back off Lee. I’m done with you.” she said and looked like she was trying to pull away, but this Lee guy wasn’t having it.

“Who’s gonna stop me? Your cat coon Shu? I’m all you have left [Name], you have nothing besides me. So you better start listening up.” he sneered at her. Bolin couldn’t stand to watch anymore.

“How about me bucko? Do I count as nothing?” Bolin asked as he walked up to the two. [Name] looked at him with relief, but grimaced as Lee tightened his grip he had on her wrist.

“Who is this loser?” he asked her, not looking away from Bolin’s stare.

“He’s not a loser. He’s more of a human being than you are.” she sneered back at him. She took advantage of Lee’s distraction and froze some fountain water onto the arm of the hand that was holding her captive.

“Gah!” he shrieked and let go of her arm. She moved away from him and towards Bolin.

“Just leave me alone Lee. We’re over.” she said and grabbed Bolins hand and started walking away.

Once Lee was out of sight and [Name] felt that it was safe, she turned around and hugged Bolin. He was surprised at first, and didn’t quite know what to do.

“Thanks Bolin. If you hadn’t shown up, I don’t know what I would’ve done.” she said, burying her face into his muscular chest. He finally hugged her back, relishing in the feeling of her in his arms.

“No problem [Name], glad I could help.” he said. They stayed like that for a moment more before pulling away.

After that encounter, Bolin and [Name] spent the day away into the night having fun and just being them. They roamed the city, ate water tribe noodles, played with Pabu and Shu. Anything and everything. They went out to the bay and [Name] waterbended them around and around, then back again. They had the times of their lives.

But it feels like I’m home again.

Today was the day. Bolin was ready to confess to [Name]. He’d gone to the flower shop and bought a bouquet of panda lilies to give her before he confessed. It was Tuesday, so he knew that she’d be performing at the park. He planned to surprise her and confess, and hopefully, she’s like him back.

He quickly made his way to the park, and saw everyone starting to leave. he rushed up behind [Name] and tapped her shoulder. You can imagine her surprise when she found a bouquet of panda lilies in her face.

“What’s this?” she asked and giggled when Bolin lowered the flowers so she could see his face.

There’s no place to hide

“I got these for you, because . . . well . . . “ Bolin stuttered, blushing like a mad man.

“Because?” she questioned him.

“Because . . . well . . . I love you.” he finally said. there was silence and Bolin was sure that he had ruined their friendship. That is, until [Name] threw her arms around Bolin’s neck and kissed him. He was shocked at first, never having kissed anyone before. But soon he figured that he should probably kiss her back.

“I love you too.” she said to him when they pulled away. Bolin smiled his goofy smiled that she loved and spun them around. So much that they ended up falling over. They laughed together and stayed there, just being with each other as a couple.

They weren’t scared anymore. No, not at all.
